Title: Tour of the Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection

Speaker:  Kasey M. Sease, Curator, Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection, The George Washington University Museum and Textile Museum

Summary: In this tour, Curator Kasey Sease will introduce society members to the Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection and D.C. history exhibitions on view. Guests will have the opportunity to explore maps off-display in the Albert H. Small Center for National Capital Area Studies. The Washingtoniana collection includes nearly 2,000 prints, maps, manuscripts, ephemera, and more that trace the founding and evolution of Washington, D.C.

Bio: Kasey Sease, Ph.D., joined the museum as curator of the Albert H. Small Washingtoniana Collection in 2023. In this role, she also oversees the Albert H. Small Center for National Capital Area Studies. Dr. Sease activates the collection through programs, exhibitions, research visits, academic collaborations and other public history initiatives. She received master's and doctoral degrees in history from William and Mary, as well as a B.A. in history and government from the University of Virginia. A former managing editor of Washington History magazine, she has also held fellowships with the Smithsonian Institution Archives, National Museum of American History, and Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture.

Agenda: 
3:15: Society members begin to arrive in museum's lobby
3:30: Tour starts with introduction to collection and Peter Waddell's paintings of Washington in Treasures from the Albert H. Small Collection
3:45: Introduction to America 250 exhibitions on display in Woodhull House's second-floor galleries (Generations D.C. and Revolutionary Echoes in Washington)
4:00: Introduction to Woodhull's first-floor corridor, which displays collection objects salon-style, including several maps
4:15: Tour of the center, spotlighting maps off-display pulled for the visit
4:30: Society members browse reading room, corridor, or exhibitions at their leisure. Curator available for questions.
5:00-6:00: Group reconvenes for social gathering at Tonic Restaurant (formerly Quigley’s Pharmacy) across the street at 2036 G Street, NW. Tater Tots and first Tincture of Tonic will be provided. Social Hour organized by Andrew Reynolds (Membership Chair) and Ronald Grim (Program Chair).

Attendance is free but registration is required. Please click the "Register" button. Maximum 30 attendees for the Museum Tour (3:30-5:00 PM) and 35 attendees for the Happy Hour (5:00-6:00 PM).
